Flash Flood In The Yangri Valley
As the monsoon season is now in full effect in Nepal, construction on our new Yangri school has slowed due to the heavy rainfall, making it challenging for our workers to continue building at present. Despite this, classes continue for the students in the upper grades who moved from the old Yangri campus to the new one in Bangdang just a few months ago. The old campus down by the river has been vacated for the season, and the younger kids (K-5) are on monsoon holiday.
A few nights ago, a flash flood swept through the Larke Valley very close to our old campus, bringing back memories of the 2021 floods. We are relieved that no children or staff were harmed, and our old campus was not damaged. It is during these times that we reflect on how grateful we are that the building of our new school campus is so far along in its construction and far away from the rivers. There is a renewed sense of urgency in getting this school built and we are more resolved than ever to finish the project by next year.
