Key Goals
Rebuild the Elementary School that was recently wiped out in a cataclysmic flood in June 2021 and at the same time expand it to also accommodate Secondary level for the Yangri Academic Centre (from currently 185 students to 300+)
Significantly increase the academic standard through continued Professional Development, rigorous curriculum development, and cutting-edge teaching methods.
Create scholarship programs for both academically gifted and socio-economically marginalized children (100+scholarships).
REBUILDING THE ELEMENTARY CAMPUS AND NEW SECONDARY CAMPUS
The 2015 earthquakes in Nepal caused unimaginable destruction. Many rural communities were in vulnerable situations before the earthquake. The Yangri Valley was no exception. Following the initial relief and reconstruction work in the valley, Himalayan Life built a regional school called the Yangri Academic Centre (YAC).
Through the fourth year of operations in 2021, Yangri Academic Centre was maxed out with 200 students attending Kindergarten through Grade Seven. Many more students from the 15 villages in the Yangri Valley were waiting to join in.
On June 15, 2021 a cataclysmic flood occurred in the Yangri Valley, destroying several of the Yangri Academic Centre buildings. Many villages and towns in the valley were severely damaged. Currently, Himalayan Life has set up temporary schooling in tents on the existing campus.
GROWTH
The next step is to rebuild the elementary school that was recently wiped out in the disastrous flood and build a secondary school alongside it in a new location. Plans for the new school have already begun. A new parcel of land has been scouted out a few hours away from the existing school. This new area will give space for both elementary and secondary campuses, allowing YAC to grow from 185 to 300+ students by 2024.
INCREASE ACADEMIC STANDARDS
The vision of YAC is to be a school that holds outstanding educational standards and sound pedagogy. A school where teachers are excited about education. Where the potential for both academically talented and challenged students are developed to their full potential. A place where children will discover the sheer joy and excitement of learning. A model school for the region and all of Nepal.

Through fostering partnerships both in Nepal and around the world, our goal for 2024 is to significantly increase the academic standard through continued Professional Development, rigorous curriculum development, and cutting-edge teaching methods.
CREATE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMS
The Yangri Academic Centre exists to allow children to experience the joy of learning, perhaps for the first time. It is a patient space, allowing children who struggle academically to grow and develop alongside their peers. Students will be equipped for either further education or vocational training. For many of the families of students that attend the school, paying the full tuition price is difficult, as they seek to meet the basic needs of their family. We want to reduce this barrier to education through a scholarship program.
