THIRD-PARTY VERIFICATION
Mountain Plastic is currently in the process of third party verification and accreditation for our carbon offsets. We have provided preliminary calculations of total CO2 offset through the PET bottle recycling at Himalayan Life Plastics along with a high-level overview of how carbon offsets are generated.
For virgin PET we have life cycle analysis data via the OpenLCA platform that indicates that virgin food-grade PET granulate has a carbon footprint of 2.9227 kgCO2 and 0.0189 kgCH4 (equivalent to 0.5298 kgCO2) for a total footprint of 3.4525 kgCO2e per kg of finished product. So, the saving from our production of 1,500 tonnes of rPET pellets is going to be compared to the 5 ,179 tCO2 for the production of the same quantity and quality of virgin PET. Over 5,000 tons of carbon a year are offset through Mountain Plastic.
