A Message From The CEO
Dear Friends of Himalayan Life,
I am grateful for our organization’s reach and impact over the past year, as documented in the pages of this report. I am also extremely thankful for your partnership and all the resources that have allowed us to make a real difference for children and families in need.
One of the core values of Himalayan Life is that we do our work with vision and passion. I am thrilled to see our staff committed to and invested in our mission of bringing life to the children in the Himalayas, with a particular focus on those from marginalized backgrounds. Take the story of Maama, featured on page 5 of this report. Once a broken man haunted by his own childhood trauma, Maama has found purpose and fulfillment in his role as the lead cook with Himalayan Life, joyfully serving children daily. In the past few years, he has prepared more than 700,000 plates of food for former slave children whose lives used to be in the perpetual dust and grey of the labour camps, but now are being lovingly cared for at the Himalayan Life Friendship Home in Leh, Ladakh.
Currently, we have 480 children in full-time care across our seven homes. All of these children have escaped circumstances of exceptional hardship and pain, and we are privileged to walk with them, protect them, nurture them back to life, and provide them with an education.
