Joyce Azzam: Everest Summiter, Conservation Architect + HL Mountain Plastic Ambassador
We are thrilled to announce that Joyce Azzam has joined us as a Himalayan Life Mountain Plastic Ambassador!
From War-Torn Lebanon to the top of Everest!
Joyce Azzam grew up in war-torn Lebanon where she spent most of her early childhood living in a bunker underground, battling a chronic lung condition and hypermobility syndrome.
“Nobody expected me to be a mountaineer, but I welcomed the contrast, as it challenged stereotypes of what a woman should be.”
Against odds and cultural barriers, Joyce has achieved her goals and has become an inspiration for people around the world. Joyce was the first Lebanese woman to complete the Seven Summits by summitting Everest May 2019. She has climbed 28 mountains across the world, holds a Ph.D. in Conservation Architecture and runs an NGO called MounTurtle.
Her story is one of strength, perseverance and hope! Joyce has become a fierce advocate for women and child’s rights.

Himalayan Life Mountain Plastic Ambassador
We are honoured to have Joyce as part of our team. April 2020, we will together begin the Everest Base Camp Expedition for Himalayan Life! Joyce and street boys from Pokhara will embark on a life-changing adventure to help recover Mountain Plastic at Everest.
This expedition will not only be to recover mountain plastic but will raise funds to support the Himalayan Life Vocational Training program we have developed for former street boys.
