Pacific Academy Summit Team Travels to Nepal
In March 2020, Himalayan Life partnered with Pacific Academy, a school in British Columbia, Canada. The goal of this partnership is twofold: to provide more teaching opportunities at YAC while offering the PA students and teachers a transformative service-learning experience.
In April 2025, nine students and two teachers from Pacific Academy travelled to Nepal, spending their time at the Yangri Academic Centre, our school in the Yangri Valley. During their stay, the Pacific Academy students prepared and taught lessons focused on phonics, mathematics, and writing for grades 3, 4, and 5. These teaching sessions proved mutually beneficial: the PA students gained valuable teaching experience while the YAC students engaged with curriculum from a different perspective.
After the teaching days, the PA students hosted a fun-filled sports day for the YAC students. The children were divided into teams and spent the day playing games, participating in sports, and enjoying various activities. A few days later, the PA group made their way to Bangdang, the site of our new school. There, they rolled up their sleeves and contributed to the construction of the new dining hall, gaining hands-on experience and a deeper appreciation for the effort involved in building something from the ground up.
The team is now back in Canada, bringing with them valuable experiences from their time at YAC. We’re grateful for our ongoing partnership with Pacific Academy and the positive impact they made during their visit.
