Background:
Nestled in the remote mountains south of Chitwan, Nepal, lies the village of Swamitar, where children often walk long distances to attend school—a challenge that is far from sustainable.
Swamitar Student Home:
In October 2024, Himalayan Life opened the doors to a new student home, providing 65 children from grades six to ten with a safe and nurturing place to stay during the school week. Instead of enduring daily treks, these students now live close to a local public school, where attending classes has become part of their daily routine. This proximity is a lifeline, breaking the cycle of limited educational opportunities that so many rural children face. On weekends, they can return home to be with their families, striking a balance between education and family life.
At the heart of Swamitar Student Home are David and Sonu, a compassionate and dedicated local couple who have made it their mission to nurture and protect these students. Their efforts go far beyond managing the home—they’ve created a warm, family-like environment where each child feels valued and supported. This student home is more than a place to stay—it is a foundation for growth, learning, and hope for the next generation.
