Construction Update For The New Yangri School
In June 2021, a catastrophic flood hit the Yangri Valley and washed away two-thirds of our beloved school, the Yangri Academic Center. Thankfully, no one was hurt, but Himalayan Life sprung into action and began planning to rebuild the school further up the Yangri Valley, away from the river that hit the school.
At the beginning of 2023, 10 acres of land were purchased and excavation work began! Foundations were laid, tools were produced and lumber was milled. The primary focus of construction has been the building of four pods and each pod will contain four classrooms (pods are referenced in the picture below).
Pods A and B have been constructed, and Pod C’s foundation and framework have been laid. Currently, Pod D has a foundation and the framing structure is being built. Additionally, stairs and wheel-chair accessible ramps have been installed alongside these buildings, making it possible for all our students to go from building to building.
Our dedicated team is putting in tremendous effort to ensure that the construction of these 4 pods is completed by April 23, 2024, as this is when the classrooms are set to become operational. As the students are welcomed into these newly built learning spaces, construction will continue with a focus on the sports field and school kitchen.
